Backend Engineer – Payments Team

About the role

The Senior Backend Engineer will design, build, and maintain the core payment and financial infrastructure that powers SQUIRE’s platform. Working within the Payments Team, you will ensure reliable, secure, and scalable payment processing for thousands of barbers and shop owners worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Develop high‑quality payment features and financial services using Node.js.
• Design and implement end‑to‑end payment flows, including authorization, capture, refund, void, and chargebacks.
• Build reconciliation processes, double‑entry ledger systems, and idempotent payment operations.
• Collaborate with product managers and other engineers to integrate payment functionality across the platform.
• Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and maintain code quality.
• Join interview panels for platform engineering hires and contribute to hiring policies.
• Share knowledge within the Platform Community and help shape technology standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve defects in payment‑critical services.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of professional experience developing applications with Node.js.
• Proven track record in the payments or fintech domain, with production‑grade payment processing systems.
• Deep understanding of the payment lifecycle: authorization, capture, refund, void, and chargebacks.
• Experience designing reconciliation processes and financial ledgers.
