Assisted Living Surveyor

About the role

The Assisted Living Surveyor works as a Generalist LPN within the Adult Care Licensure Section of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. This position provides regulatory oversight for assisted living facilities and overnight respite programs, ensuring compliance with state licensure rules and statutes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site inspections of licensed adult‑care homes and overnight respite programs.
• Analyze survey findings, determine compliance, and document results in a legally defensible manner.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to facilities, potential providers, and county Department of Social Services staff.
• Communicate findings and recommendations orally and in writing to facility staff, the public, and internal stakeholders.
• Travel frequently within the Eastern Region of North Carolina, using a state, rental, or personal vehicle, with travel expenses reimbursed at state rates.

Required profile

• Current LPN licensure and knowledge of nursing practice, assessment, and care planning.
• Experience applying rules, statutes, and standards to ensure compliance, including participation in state or federal surveys or audits.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to produce clear technical reports.
• Residence in Wake, Lee, Harnett, Cumberland, Hoke, Scotland, or adjacent counties.
