Transportation Specialist – Logistics Coordination

About the role

The Transportation Specialist will act as the primary liaison between internal teams and external transportation vendors, ensuring smooth execution of shipments for AJC's frozen and refrigerated food products. This role requires strong organizational abilities, problem‑solving skills, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Interact with surface transportation vendors, manage trucking capacity, and assign loads.
• Collaborate with Operations and Sales teams to schedule future shipments based on booked business.
• Determine optimal routing considering product readiness, freezer appointments, and carrier availability.
• Address daily tactical issues with internal customers and transportation vendors.
• Identify and propose process improvements and performance enhancements.
• Match core business destinations with appropriate transportation vendors.
• Handle rate requests, negotiations, and contract management with ocean carriers, rail, trucking, and drayage companies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 1‑2 years of experience in ocean transportation; knowledge of refrigerated transport is a plus.
• Exceptional organizational skills, high attention to detail, and a strong sense of urgency.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Proactive, positive attitude and ability to work under pressure, independently or within a team.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Outlook.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience using Oracle systems.
