Software Development Engineer III – Backend (Fiat Payments)

About the role

Transak is looking for a senior backend engineer to own high‑throughput payment microservices that move real money across multiple currencies and jurisdictions. You will design, build, scale, and operate critical payment systems while collaborating with product, risk, and operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate Node.js/TypeScript services for orders, payments, reconciliation, virtual accounts and payout orchestration.
• Ensure correctness and failure‑tolerance: idempotent, retry‑safe, auditable and recoverable transaction flows.
• Integrate with banking and card partners, handling API contracts, webhooks, sandbox‑to‑production rollouts and multi‑rail reconciliation (ACH, SEPA, Faster Payments, wires).
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines on Jenkins, and operate AWS infrastructure (ECS/EKS, Lambda, SQS/SNS, RDS, CloudWatch).
• Mentor engineers, lead technical road‑maps, write design docs/RFCs and drive consensus across cross‑functional teams.

Required profile

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily backend/distributed systems.
• Strong background in fintech, payments or banking infrastructure, preferably with LATAM experience.
• Proven track record of owning a production service end‑to‑end, including on‑call responsibilities.
• Excellent written communication for design docs and stakeholder collaboration.
