AWS Database SRE Software Engineer

About the role

As part of Platform Services, you will develop and build software that keeps our AWS database platforms reliable at scale while enabling client teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain software and automation that keep the AWS database fleet reliable, observable and self‑healing.
• Write production‑grade code in Python and Java to remove manual toil, codify operational knowledge and improve mean time to recovery.
• Own SLOs, error budgets and the reliability roadmap for managed database platforms such as RDS, Aurora and DynamoDB.
• Build monitoring, alerting and diagnostics that give engineering and support clear insight into platform health.
• Partner with product engineering and SRE leaders to feed reliability and supportability requirements back into the product.
• Lead resolution of the most challenging database and infrastructure issues and engineer long‑term solutions.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with AWS managed database services (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB).
• A software‑engineering mindset applied to reliability, solving operational problems with code.
• Understanding of AI and ML concepts and ability to incorporate them into designs.
• Strong development experience in Python, Java, Go or C++.
• Experience designing, building and running resilient services with SLOs, error budgets and on‑call rotation.
• Solid knowledge of cloud, virtualization, APIs and modern software design.
• Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code and CI/CD tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation and Jenkins.
• Hands‑on experience with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Kibana, Splunk and Dynatrace.
• Experience building full‑stack solutions on cloud platforms.
• Understanding of agile and lean philosophies and strong communication skills.
