Undergraduate Nurse Employee (UNE) – Clinical Position

About the role

The Undergraduate Nurse Employee (UNE) position offers nursing students a structured opportunity to apply and consolidate the knowledge gained in their academic program within a real‑world hospital environment. Working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), the UNE contributes to patient‑centred care while developing the competencies required for future RN or RPN practice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN/RPN supervision, following hospital policies and regulatory standards.
• Assist with assessments, medication administration, and documentation as permitted by legislation and competency level.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to care planning.
• Maintain a safe and clean clinical environment, adhering to infection‑control protocols.
• Seek guidance and consultation when clinical situations exceed current competency.

Required profile

• Enrolled in an approved nursing education program (undergraduate level).
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
• Commitment to delivering safe, compassionate, and patient‑focused care.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
