Nurse Consultant I – Adult Care Licensure (NC)

About the role

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a Nurse Consultant I to join the Adult Care Licensure Section. This position focuses on regulatory oversight of assisted‑living facilities and overnight respite programs, ensuring compliance with state licensure rules and statutes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site inspections of licensed adult care homes and respite programs across the Central region of North Carolina.
• Analyze survey findings, determine compliance, and document results in a legally defensible manner.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to facilities, prospective providers, and county Department of Social Services staff.
• Communicate inspection outcomes and recommendations verbally and in writing to stakeholders.
• Travel frequently, including occasional overnight stays, using a state‑provided, rental, or personal vehicle with reimbursed expenses.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
• Knowledge of current nursing practice, assessment, and care planning.
• Experience applying rules, statutes, or standards in compliance, audit, or accreditation surveys.
• Strong written and oral communication abilities.
• Residency in one of the designated Central region counties.

Required skills

• Understanding of state licensure regulations for adult care facilities.
• Ability to evaluate compliance and produce detailed reports.
