Financial Controller

About the role

The Controller will lead the financial operations of Political Asylum Lawyers, a Houston‑based immigration law firm. Reporting to the Owner/CFO, you will ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial records while supporting strategic decision‑making for a mission‑driven organization that assists asylum seekers across the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day financial operations, including accounting, billing, accounts receivable and payroll oversight.
• Prepare cash‑flow forecasts, financial statements, and management reports.
• Coordinate tax reporting and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
• Develop and maintain internal controls and finance‑related operational projects.
• Provide financial analysis and translate data into actionable insights for budgeting, profitability, pricing and collections.
• Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial management or controlling, preferably within a professional services environment.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to communicate complex financial information in plain English.
• High level of integrity, attention to detail and commitment to the firm’s mission.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with senior leadership.
