Controller – Vacation Rental Finance (US Experience)

About the role

Howard Financial is seeking a Controller to oversee the financial integrity of its Vacation Rental client portfolio. The role bridges day‑to‑day bookkeeping with executive‑level strategy, focusing on the unique accounting needs of the short‑term rental industry in the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full month‑end close process for multiple STR clients, delivering accurate Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets.
• Oversee trust accounting, reconciling guest payments, security deposits, and cleaning fees, and ensure timely owner statements and distributions.
• Track and report industry‑specific KPIs such as RevPAR, ADR, and Occupancy, providing actionable insights to clients.
• Review the work of staff accountants and bookkeepers for compliance with US GAAP and client SOPs.
• Manage data integration between Property Management Systems (e.g., Guesty, Hostaway, Streamline) and accounting platforms (QuickBooks Online, NetSuite).
• Serve as the primary point of contact for client financial inquiries, explaining variances during monthly reviews.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of experience as an Accountant or Senior Accountant in the US Vacation Rental / Short‑Term Rental industry.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP.
• Advanced Excel proficiency (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, data cleaning).
• Excellent written and verbal English (C1/C2 level).
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, growth‑focused environment.
