Backstage Platform Developer

About the role

Ciklum is seeking a Backstage Platform Developer to join its Argentina team. You will design and deliver an automated, one‑click provisioning system that creates Azure networking, compute and storage resources through a Backstage‑based developer portal.

Key responsibilities

• Architect a modular “Goal State” engine for Azure using Terraform, enabling atomic cloning, diffing and iterative environments.
• Develop Node.js/TypeScript plugins and scaffolder actions within Backstage to provide a self‑service UI for site and ring provisioning.
• Build pipelines and controllers (ArgoCD, Flux, OpenTofu, Helm umbrella charts) that reconcile the Blueprint’s goal state with actual Azure resources.
• Extend the Backstage Service Catalog to track MSF footprints, showing pending, active and deprecated sites.
• Lead migration of legacy sites to the new Blueprint framework, ensuring zero‑downtime and configuration parity.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives such as TTM reduction, operational excellence and cost optimisation.

Required profile

• Advanced expertise with Terraform and the Azure provider (azurerm), including complex VNet peering, managed identities and remote state at scale.
• Strong backend development skills in Node.js, TypeScript/JavaScript for customizing Backstage.
• Hands‑on experience with Backstage’s Software Catalog and Scaffolder, including template.yaml creation and integration with GitHub, GitLab or Azure DevOps.
• Mastery of CI/CD and GitOps practices, automated PR workflows and policy‑as‑code validation.
• Deep understanding of cloud‑native networking, compute and storage scaling in high‑compliance environments (e.g., IL5).
